Still Life with Extreme Weather

To the sensate lawns at the perimeter of a lot beyond the boatyard,

the bending in blue dresses to touch something

there and gone, the sod,

wild chicory and golden rod withstanding
most of what is said to follow

the last gingham on the line and everything after that

which New England knows well how to cast

in other colors, as if the fear she will never come back is unfounded.
